Press Release - Santa Fe Dreamers Project Announces New Name: Contigo Immigrant Justice
New name, same commitment to immigrant justice
A decade of impact, a new chapter in the fight for immigrant rights in New Mexico
SANTA FE, NM — After more than ten years as a leading force for immigrant rights in New Mexico, the Santa Fe Dreamers Project is entering a new era—with a new name that reflects its growth, values, and statewide reach. The organization will now be known as Contigo Immigrant Justice.
Founded in 2014 as a grassroots legal project offering free DACA assistance to immigrant youth, the Santa Fe Dreamers Project has since evolved into one of the Southwest’s premier immigration legal services nonprofits. With a client-centered, abolitionist legal model, the organization has represented thousands of immigrants across the state—from humanitarian visas to asylum, green cards, and citizenship.
Continuity and Commitment
Though the name is changing, the mission remains the same. Contigo Immigrant Justice continues to fight for the dignity, safety, and freedom of immigrant communities—especially those who are undocumented, LGBTQ+, low-income, or survivors of violence.
With over 1,150 active cases and a 99% success rate on completed cases, Contigo is one of the most effective immigrant legal defense organizations in the country. Its services include:
Humanitarian immigration relief (asylum, U Visa, T Visa, VAWA, SIJS)
Affirmative immigration applications (DACA, green cards, citizenship)
Long-term, trauma-informed legal representation
Mobile legal clinics in rural and underserved areas
Outreach and education for immigrant communities
Its clients are 98% Hispanic/Latinx, predominantly Spanish-speaking, and often facing complex legal, economic, and social challenges.
A Critical New Role: Expanding the Fianza Fund
With this new chapter, Contigo is also taking on an urgent new responsibility. The organization will now inherit and expand the Fianza Fund—New Mexico’s only immigration-specific bail fund, which has helped free hundreds of individuals from ICE detention by covering immigration bonds.
Previously volunteer-run, the Fianza Fund was at risk of closing. Contigo stepped in to ensure that the fund’s mission will not only survive but thrive—combining bond payments with full-scope legal representation for those detained by immigration enforcement.
Organizational Impact by the Numbers:
1,150+ Active Immigration Cases
98% Hispanic/Latinx Client Base
63 New Humanitarian Cases Opened in 2024
240+ Consultations Annually for Survivors of Violence
8+ Mobile Legal Clinics Each Year in Rural Counties
26+ Years of Combined Legal Experience
5,200+ Social Media Followers & 2,000+ Newsletter Subscribers

Contigo continues to serve high-need regions like Taos and Valencia counties, where no other immigration attorneys are available. Many of its clients’ cases stretch 5–15 years due to federal backlogs, but the organization remains by their side throughout.
New Same, Same Strong Mission
For years, the Santa Fe Dreamers Project has stood beside immigrant communities, remaining true to its core values—always client-centered, always collaborative, always “with you.” The launch of Contigo Immigrant Justice is a bold declaration of that enduring promise: to remain with the community until justice is won.
Support for Contigo Immigrant Justice fuels liberation—protecting rights, reuniting families, and creating lasting change.
The organization invites the public to join this new chapter at the Annual Gala on Wednesday, November 13 at the Eldorado Hotel in Santa Fe to celebrate victories, honor communities, and build momentum for the work ahead.
